1. Draw lines across some coloured paper at 5mm intervals. Cut along the lines to make lots of strips. Ask an adult to make a small slit in the end of a cocktail stick. Thread the end of one strip into the slit, and then wind the paper around the stick. (pic a)
  2. Release the coil a little before gluing the end of the paper in place to make a circular shape. Make more circles in this way using other colours and pinch the sides of some of them to make petal shapes. (pic b)
  3. On a flat surface, glue four petals of one colour to the outside of one circle using a dab of PVA where the pieces touch. Add four different coloured petals in between the first to make a flower shape. (pic c)
  4. Build up the decoration by adding more circles and petal shapes to the outside of the design and leave the finished flower to dry completely before lifting from the flat surface. Hang in a window or fix to a wall with a little blu-tack. (pic d)
