1. Cut thirteen dumbbell shapes from brown foam and make a small slit at both ends of each shape. Lay the shapes onto newspaper and spray them with gold paint. (pics a & b)
  2. When dry, take one dumbbell for the middle piece of the collar. Cut away the narrow band from the middle and cut a second slot at the opposite end of both shapes. Stick the two shapes back to back using double-sided tape, carefully lining up the slots.
  3. Decorate one side by gluing a large acrylic jewel to the centre of the shape. For all the other dumbbell shapes decorate just one end of the dumbbell. Add embellishment to each gem with 3D metallic and glitter pens. (pic c)
  4. When all the pieces are dry, begin assembling the collar by folding the undecorated side of one piece in half lengthwise.
  5. Slip this folded piece through a slit in the middle piece until the narrower part is in the slit and unfold. Make sure the jewels are facing the same way (outwards).
  6. Secure the piece by sticking it together with double-sided tape. Continue adding the pieces to each side of the middle piece until the collar is 13 pieces long. Tie pieces of ribbon into the slits at the ends of the collar. (pic d)
