1. Use red and green fabric paint to draw striped stockings on the legs of a doll and leave to dry. Draw features and hair on the head and colour in the top of the chest in red. (pic a)
  2. Cut two jacket shapes from green felt to fit the doll, and cut one shape down the centre to make the front. Use three strands of green thread to sew along the shoulders, sleeves and sides of the jacket with running stitch. (pic b)
  3. Fold back the tops of the front of the jacket to make a collar and stitch in place. Use pattern scissors to cut 1cm wide strips of white felt and sew around the ends of the sleeves and the base of the jacket to make a border. (pic c)
  4. Cut a cone shape from green felt and edge with a white felt border. Sew up the sides of the cone to make a pointed hat and secure to the doll’s head with small stitches.
  5. Dress the doll in the jacket and overlap the front for a good fit. Make a couple of small stitches to hold in place.
  6. Cut a 1cm wide strip of red felt with pattern scissors and wrap around the waist of the doll. Stitch a small yellow felt circle to the middle of the belt to fasten it. (pic d)
