Unfold the foam and punch several holes in the top of the head. Punch two holes at each end of the strip and two more under each side of the neck. (pic a)

Roll in one side of the body strip until the holes at the end and under the neck line up. Thread half a pipe cleaner through each of the holes to hold the body shape in place and create the alien’s limbs. (pic b)

Cut some 10cm lengths of chenille and thread through the holes in the head to make a weird hairstyle.

Cut a 10cm circle of green sticky foam. Cut a circle from the middle the same diameter as your tube. Slip the foam over the tube and stick to one set of flaps. Stick a second disc of foam to the bottom and add a green felt fringe around the base if necessary. (pic a)

Stick the bowl upside down onto the stem. Use double-sided tape on only half the flaps so that it can lift up slightly.

Draw a 14cm diameter circle in the middle of a piece of red foam. Draw a 5.5cm circle inside this and use a protractor to mark into 12 sections.

Cut down the lines to the middle circle and cut a slot in the centre for the money. Use double-sided tape to overlap the sections into a bowl shape. (pic b)

Cut lots of white discs from sticky foam to cover the top of the toadstool. Make little bugs from decorated circles of foam with wings and wiggle-eyes. (pic c)

Cut a piece of yellow card to A5 and glue to the back of a cereal packet to strengthen it. Trim this to the edges of the coloured card. Cut another piece of coloured card the same size for the roof.

Cut some red card into rectangles 15cm by 10.5cm and roll each one around a pencil to make strong poles, 15cm long, and secure with double-sided tape.

Cut eight rectangles of yellow card 3cm wide by 10.5cm and wrap them loosely around the poles. Remove, then secure each roll with double-sided tape. (pic a)

Cut 1cm slits into one end of each roll of yellow card and fan out. Glue the rolls to each corner of the base and roof then cover with rings of sticky foam to strengthen. (pic b)

Fit the poles into the rolls on the base and place the roof on top. Cut another piece of card 21cm by 15cm and cut out windows and a door. Decorate with strips of paper and foam to look like a shop front and fix to the roof with a strip of paper so it hangs down.

Make cones from semi-circles of card covered in paper. Decorate the floor of the garage with stripes of paper. Make a petrol pump from square tubes and rolls of card and paint up some wooden cars with coloured acrylic to drive around the play-set. (pic c)
