Lovely Bug

Use our template to cut out a bug shape from yellow card. Trim a large heart motif from red paper and fix this to the centre of the back with the point towards the head of the bug. (pic a)

Bend the legs downwards where they join the body and check the bug stands up without tipping over. If necessary trim a little off the bottom of the legs to balance it. Cut tiny red hearts and glue these down each leg. (pic b)

Fold rectangles of green and orange paper in half and cut out four pairs of wings. Open out the folds and glue the wings together in the middle so the colours alternate and they overlap slightly. (pic c)

Add a pair of wiggle-eyes to the head of the bug. Cut a fringe in two small squares of red paper and curl up to make eyelashes. Glue these over the tops of the eyes. Fix the wings to the back of the bug and bend up. (pic d)

Heart Shaped Card

Fold an A5 piece of white card in half to make a card blank. Turn so the fold is at the top and draw a large heart in the centre so the curves at the top overlap the fold. Cut around the top curves through both thicknesses of card. (pic a)

Open out the card before cutting away the pointed base of the heart shape from the top layer of card only. This will allow the card to stand up properly without tipping over. Use a red sparkle glitter pen to draw a stitch design around the edge of the heart. (pic b)

Cut out a large heart from red paper, making sure it fits inside the shape of the card. Write an ‘I’

and a ‘U’ on either side of the heart with a silver sparkle glitter pen and add another line of stitches around the edge. (pic c)

Glue the red heart to the middle of the card. Place a felt heart sticker in between the two letters. Tear part of the backing paper from the top of another felt heart and fix to the base of the card. Do the same for the other side so they rest on the table when the card is opened. Finish off by adding spots of glitter around the heart and to the ‘stitches’. (pic d)

Cupcake Cushion

Cut out two complete cupcake shapes from orange felt (use our template). Pin the shapes together and use running stitch to sew around the edges, leaving a gap of about 3cm on one side. (pic a)

Cut some 5mm wide strips

of white self-adhesive felt.

Use these to create the effect of creases on the cake case area of

the shape and trim neatly along

the bottom. (pic b)

Cut out a piece of pink

self-adhesive felt shaped like the icing on the top of the cake.

Cut out three red sticky felt hearts

and lots of small rectangles of green sticky felt. Decorate the icing piece before placing over the top of the sewn shape. (pic c)

Stick the other hearts onto the cake case area and lightly stuff the shape with fibre stuffing. Make sure the filling is evenly distributed before stitching up the gap. (pic d)

Valentine’s Heart Bag

Cut out two heart shapes from pink felt (use our template). Take one piece and use embroidery thread to sew iridescent flower beads over the surface making sure they lay flat. (pic a)
Cut out two large wing shapes and four smaller ones. Divide into two piles and layer together so the tips fan out. Stitch together to keep in place. (pic b)
Place the beaded heart over the plain felt heart and pin the wings in place between the pieces. Use embroidery thread to over-sew around the heart, stitching the wings in place as you go. Make sure you leave the top part of the heart open to form the bag. (pic c)
At the top of the bag, just above the wings, stitch a length of embroidery thread to one side. Thread on alternating flower and mini metallic beads to make a handle. Secure the other end of the thread on the other side of the bag. (pic d)

Heart Flower Bouquet

Trace an elongated heart shape on the back of a piece of self-adhesive foam (use our online template). Draw a 3cm diameter circle in the centre and cut out the frame shape with small scissors. (pic a)

Fix a small circle of white card behind the aperture in the heart and write a special message on it. Cut another heart shape from sticky foam, making sure it is the mirror image of the first one. Stick the two hearts back to back, sandwiching a pipe cleaner stem between them towards the point of the shape. (pic b)

Fold a rectangle of green sticky foam in half and cut out a heart shape, leaving the pointed end joined at the fold. Open out, remove the backing paper and fix around the stem of the heart flower. (pic c)

Cut out some smaller heart shapes from other colours

of self-adhesive foam and use

these to decorate the heart flower. Cover a desktop tidy with a sheet

of sticky foam. Decorate this with more hearts and use as a vase for

the flowers. (pic d)

Photo Frame Bookmark

Cut a strip of pink card 5cm by 21cm and fold in half. Draw a scalloped design around the three unfolded sides of the card and cut out through both thicknesses with scissors. (pic a)

Draw around a large heart onto white card (can we use template from another project?). Cut 5mm inside this line to make a smaller heart and glue to the back of the foam shape. Glue the fold of the scalloped strip to the centre of the card heart. (pic b)

Take a suitable picture and place another large heart over it so the face can be seen easily. Draw around the heart onto the background of the picture and cut out 5mm inside the line as before. Glue the picture inside the foam heart. (pic c)

Use silicone glue to fix the picture frame heart over onto the backing heart and scalloped strip and leave to dry. Decorate by cutting smaller white hearts from spare glitter foam taken from the middle of a frame shape. Cut a square of white card with pattern-edge scissors. (pic d)

Cut out a small square of white card with pattern-edge scissors, glue onto the bookmark and add a ‘LOVE’-ly greeting! (pic d)

Heart Wind Chimes

Pick some blue and red acrylic paint and colour both sides of each part of the wind chime as shown, avoiding the strings. (pic a)
When the paint is dry use a fine brush to paint a flower design on the top of the wind chime, adding dots around the edges. (pic b)
Cut some short pieces of ribbon in a similar colour to your paint. Tie these between the beads on the hanging string and above the heart at the bottom. (pic c)
Gather some wider ribbon into a bow and stitch a button to the centre. Make another decoration in the same way and glue both to each side of the heart at the bottom. (pic d)

Button Heart Needle Case

Cut a piece of black felt 11cm by 9cm using pattern scissors. Pin this to a piece of red felt and cut neatly around the outside leaving a 5mm border all round. (pic a)
Fold the two pieces in half together to make a book shape. Use red embroidery thread to sew running stitch down the spine (about 1cm in from the edge), holding the felt pieces together. (pic b)
Cut an elongated heart shape from pink felt. Choose lots of small buttons in pastel shades and sew them to one side of the heart with embroidery thread. (pic c)
Open out the cover of the needle case and fix the decorated heart to it with small over-sewing stitches. (pic d)

Heart Dreamcatcher

Use a pencil to mark equal distances around the inside of the biggest heart and the outside of the smallest. Make sure you have the same number of marks on each side. Prick the marks with a needle (ask a grown-up to help you with this). (pic a)
Colour in both sides with a fibre tip pen, using a different colour for each heart. Slide a piece of spare card between the hearts to help you colour each section separately. Fold the middle hearts over. (pic b)
Thread a needle with white embroidery thread and knot the end. Start from the first hole in the big heart and sew through the second hole in the small heart. Sew through the third hole in the big heart and continue stitching through every alternate hole. Repeat with yellow thread, sewing through the remaining holes. (pic c)
Pierce three holes at the base of the heart then thread some plastic beads onto some more embroidery thread. Cut out some heart shapes from self-adhesive foam and add to the ends before tying through the holes in the heart. (pic d)

Button Heart Canvas

Draw a large heart shape in the middle of a mini canvas with a pencil.
Colour in the heart with red acrylic paint and fill in the background and the sides of the canvas with orange, using two coats to get an even coverage. (pic a)
Outline the design with small dots of silver glitter and leave to dry. (pic b)
Sort out your buttons as you’ll need different sizes in white, pink and red.
Arrange the buttons in the heart shape, moving them around so that there are no big gaps between any of them. (pic c)
Fix each button in place with a dab of extra strong glue and leave the canvas flat until the glue has dried completely.
