- Cut a simple crescent shaped bird from two pieces of felt and pin together. Start at the back of the head and sew the pieces together working towards the beak. Stop before you reach the tail end.
- Gather four or five coloured feathers and wrap the quills with thread to hold the bunch together. Place the bunch between the pieces of felt at the tail and continue sewing, this will hold the feathers in place. (pic a)
- When you have 4cm of the bird left to sew, stuff the shape firmly with fibre stuffing or cotton wool. Sew the gap closed and secure the end of the thread tightly. (pic b)
- Cut two wing shapes from contrasting coloured felt. Decorate the edges of the wings by sewing on alternating colours of metallic beads. (pic c)
- Make a necklace for the bird with beads and metallic bells threaded onto stretchy cord. Stick wiggle-eyes either side of the head.
- Cut a 20cm length of stretchy cord and knot a bell or bead to one end. Thread on several multicoloured beads and thread cord through the bottom of the bird. Thread on more beads and knot another bell or bead at the end. Sew more cord through the bird’s back and thread on beads to make a decorative hanging loop. (pic d)
